This is based on a true story about someone very special to me, and I am pleased to say she is doing great
lyrics
CAPO 1st FRET
G
He’s a charmer, He’s a really nice bloke
C
Charasmatic and appealing, but he wears it like a cloak,
D C G
Coz when he’s out in public he’s just the perfect man but he’s a sham
G
His trophy Wife of 15 years, who always wore a smile,
C
She’s gorgeous and attentive, always kitted in style,
D C
But when she’s home alone with him, she takes all his anger for an
G
easy life
Chorus
D C G
What can you do when your life slips away like sand.
D C G
What can you do except to fight and make a stand
D C G
You can’t reason with the Devil, he’s a poor excuse for a man.
G
What can you say, what can you do, when she won’t say a word
C
When as far as she’s concerned, these things never have occurred
D C
She wears her silence like a shield, and lives her life in fear
G
Well that’s no life
G
Her family can’t get close to her, he ties her up like rope,
C
He keeps them all at arm’s length to suffocate her hope
D C G
He will batter and abuse her and tell her it’s her fault and she’ll agree
Chorus
D C G
What can you do when your life slips away like sand.
D C G
What can you do except to fight and make a stand
D C G
You can’t reason with the Devil, he’s a poor excuse for a man.
G
Well after fifteen years of hell, she left and got away,
C
And she’s coping with the children, but she’s dreading everyday,
D C
That he will come and find her, and torture her some more,
G
But he’s too late
G
See now she’s found the courage and he’s paying for his crimes
C
She’s winning in her battle one day at a time,
D C
She won’t be pushed she won’t be pulled and this is just the start of
G
her new life
Chorus and Outro
D C G
What can you do when your life slips away like sand.
D C G
What can you do except to fight and make a stand
D C G
You can’t reason with the Devil, he’s a poor excuse for a man.
D C G
See what she did that day she learnt, she learnt to kick and fight
D C G
She got the help she needed from her family, when they realised her
plight
D (1STRUM) C (1STRUM) G (1STRUM) But the thing that really done it was.... She realised he’s no man

The more recent albums have been good (though I'm still to be convinced by Lost Folk), but this is still Gaz's best album. Cornish Fishing Town is superb (loved the duet with Nick at South Petherton a few years ago), but Knights of the Round Table is another level again - my absolute favourite Gaz song, though not one for live shows, sadly. zummerzet66

I'm sat in our van, in a layby in the Midlands awaiting the exuberant excitement tomorrow... This is where it's at!
Love and Light and Laughter to all that made this little slice of magic whilst supporting mental health. Myself, the universe and many others thank you.
I don't wanna go home - good job I live in a van 😁 Stella O'Farrell
